Asymmetric Business Model

Most investors look for asymmetric returns, that is investments with greater upside than downside. In my Asymmetric Business Model thematic, I look for companies that I think offer asymmetric returns in their shares, but also ones that have extremely favorable competitive positions while their market opportunity is expanding. More often than not, companies targeted by this theme have a strong intellectual property and licensing business model. That business model generates favorable gross and operating margin leverage and has meaningful barriers to entry.
